Shopping for Baby: Episode 1

I finally got to shop for for the first time for our baby boy. I had to convince Osc to let me go because I had to drive myself from home to Greenhills to pick up my Mom then to Megamall. Our driver wasn't available that day, lucky me. Lol.

Anyway, I already had a list in hand on what I would get that day. I didn't want to get too much since baby might get clothes as gifts from his Ninongs and Ninangs if we do have a baby shower.

Here's my loot!

shopping for newborn

2 Receiving Blankets (Looney Toons & Little Wishes)
3 Tie-side Shirts (Little Wishes)
3 Tie-side Sleeve-less Shirts (Little Wishes)
3 Buttoned-down Long sleeve Shirts (So-En Baby)
3 Pairs of Mitten (Looney Toons)
3 Pairs of Booties (Looney Toons)
3 Pairs of Bonnets (Looney Toons)
3 PJs (Looney Toons)
1 Powder Container w/ Puff (Baby Company)
2 New Born Diapers (EQ Dry)
1 Anti-leak Mat (Looney Toons)

The sets I got from the Looney Toons brand were a bit cheaper than other brands at the infants/new born section. The fabric was a bit better too. Next time I shop, I'll get more from them. I loved their baby blanket. It was soooo soft! The stuff from Little Wishes were soft as well. There are other local brands that also offer sets, but the quality of the fabric wasn't that good. Though I go to find an okay set of buttoned-down long sleeve shirts there. It was cheaper than the Little Wishes set I first got.

I got all these for only P1,887.87 :D

I can't wait to shop again for baby! Mom has no budget yet eh. :p I'm trying out online shopping through Multiply sites and other online shops. They cost less I think. Tight, tight budget!

Baby Santiago is a... BOY!

ultrasound at 5 months
CAS Ultrasound at 5 months
It's a boy! I know, I know. I originally wanted a girl so I can dress her up and stuff but Dad and Mom are very happy that baby is growing healthy and strong! Besides, I get Osc's point that if our first child is a boy, we'll have less problems (I hope!) when he's in his teen years (in Osc's opinion) since boys can take care of themselves. I just pray to God that my son will be God fearing and loving, that is my only request. READ MORE AFTER THE JUMP!

The Medical City or St. Luke's Medical Center

I have been going to The Medical City at Ortigas since I was still in college because it was near the condo I was staying at. I've been a sickly girl (very lucky I'm not getting sick so much right now that I have little boy inside me!) since I was young. I think I visited TMC 5-10 times while in college due to stress or I just have a very low immune system. I remember one time I was there 3 times in a row and I saw the same nurse at the recovery room so many times that he remembered me.

I hope baby boy doesn't grow up to be sickly like me. On the other hand, Osc rarely gets sick. And whenever he does get sick, he doesn't rush to the hospital like me to get checked. Boys! Lol.

Ever since getting pregnant, I've been debating in my head whether to give birth at TMC or St. Luke's Medical Center where my sister-in-law's OBGYN is at, the OBGYN who did my D&C back in July (another post for this).  READ MORE AFTER THE BREAK!

Fetal Movements

I was around 13 weeks along when I felt a "quickening" in my lower abdomen.

Quickening refers to the initial motion of the fetus in the uterus as it is perceived or felt by the pregnant woman. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, to "quicken" means "to reach the stage of pregnancy at which the child shows signs of life."(Wikipedia.com)

I was just laying down on my right side I believe when I felt a flutter in there. I am very much in-tune with my body (see: I am a very sensitive person. LOL) so I knew it wasn't just gas. Plus gas doesn't move like that in my stomach. Osc was on the computer during that time. I just told him, "I think I felt baby move." I've been reading my "What to Expect When You're Expecting" by Heidi Murkoff and read that as early as that you can feel some fetal movement, though not as strong as it would around 5th-6th month. Positive! September 15, 2010

I just got back from my trip to the US about two weeks ago before I found out we were expecting. It was a total surprise since we were all planning our July 2011 wedding. I even got my bridal gown in the US already, I hand-carried it all the way from New Jersey! Thank God I was on Business Class or it would have been such a hassle carrying that thing on Economy.

It was 3 days before my birthday when I decided to take a HPT. I wanted to know for sure if I was or wasn't pregnant before I go out and celebrate my birthday like a teenager. I also had the gut feeling that I was pregnant but needed some confirmation. I bought a Medic PT at the local Mercury Drugstore before I went to buy groceries. When I got home, I took a test watched it as the liquid flowed on the test area. Seeing that a double line wasn't showing that time, I went out of the bathroom and went on the computer. After 30 minutes, I went back to the bathroom and there is was! Two beautiful lines. I had mixed emotions! Happy, scared, excited, scared, worried, etc.

Like the first time, Osc was hard to reach! He was either sleeping or on the computer and his phone was on silent mode (hahaha!). READ MORE AFTER THE JUMP!

5 months over due... this blog I mean!

Hello everybody!

I have been wanting to start a "Mommy & Baby" blog ever since we found out we were expecting last September, but I somehow didn't have the time. I wanted to make this blog so that I can share my experiences in pregnancy, preparing for the D-Day, and what happens when baby comes. Not only do I want it to be personal but I want it also to be an informative blog for other mom-to-be's out there.

My Mom finds it funny that I read pregnancy books or surf the net about pregnancy and all these week-by-week details. She states that back in her days (she's 71 by the way!), they didn't have these books or these things that takes pictures of our womb called ultrasounds, or this gadget that helps us listen to baby's heartbeat called a Doppler. Lucky for all of us expecting and soon-to-be expecting Moms, we have these state of the art technology that helps us ease our minds when it comes to baby's health and condition even before he or she is welcomed into the world.

So, what can you expect from this blog? It's simple. I would share my stories, adventures, findings, etc. And in return, I hope you would share yours as well. So we can make a collection of informative stuff for other mom-to-be's!

I am in my second trimester now. Maybe that's why I am so energetic, and finally found the time to make this baby blog. :D

Will post after this!

love,
Roxi
